2009 Tax Credit Information
There has never been a better time to upgrade your home's insulation! The February 17, 2009 Stimulus Bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) has made significant changes to the energy efficiency tax credits.
What that means for homeowners is that you can save 30% of the cost of upgrading your home's insulation, earning up to $1,500 in federal tax credits.
Here are some of the bill’s highlights:
- The tax credits previously effective for 2009 have been extended to 2010.
- The tax credit has been raised from 10% to 30%.
- The tax credits for a specific dollar amount have been converted to 30% of the cost.
The maximum credit has been raised to $1,500 from $500 for the two years (2009-2010). These 30% tax credits are for improvements to existing homes only and include insulation upgrades.
